　広島平和記念公園にある「原爆の子の像」へ、日本国内をはじめ世界各国から捧げられる、千羽鶴。その平和を願う想いのこもった折鶴の更なる活用のため、広島市では、絵ハガキや包装紙などへ再生し、様々な取り組みを行なっています。

　そうした「折鶴の昇華」の取り組みの中、宮島最古の寺院「大聖院」では、「折鶴のお焚き上げ（護摩供）」が行われています。お焚き上げに使われる火は、弥山山頂にある「消えずの霊火堂」で一二〇〇年間燃え続けている「消えずの霊火」であり、消えずの霊火は平和公園で燃え続ける「平和の灯火」の元火のひとつにもなっています。

　対厳堂は、お焚き上げにより産出された「灰」を譲り受け、「折鶴灰釉」として制作に活かし、この度ランプを制作いたしました。原爆の子の像のシルエットをイメージさせるランプの形状と、そこに彫刻された折鶴。ろうそくのやわらかな燈が、おだやかに、やすらかに、そっと寄り添います。
　折鶴に託された平和へ願いを、やさしい燈〈あかり〉から感じていただけるよう、思いを込めたランプです。

The Akari lamp embodies the thoughts and prayers that go into Hiroshima’s senbazuru paper cranes. Let your soul find comfort in the warm embrace of the candlelight and cherish the moment.
Every year, people from across Japan and the rest of the world send senbazuru (a thousand folded paper cranes) to the Children’s Peace Monument in Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park. Each set of cranes represents the creator’s hopes and prayers for peace. Hiroshima City upcycles old paper cranes by turning them into postcards, wrapping paper and other items. The remaining are burnt in a sacred ritual performed at Daishō-in Temple, the oldest in Miyajima. The fire used in the ritual is the famous ‘Eternal Flame’ from Reikado Hall near the summit of Mount Misen. This flame has been burning continuously for over 1,200 years and it was used to light the ‘Flame of Peace’ in the Peace Memorial Park.

We receive the ash from the ritual to use in our ‘senbazuru ash glaze’, which we apply to the Akari lamp. The lamp is made to resemble the shape of the Children’s Peace Monument and comes with folded paper cranes engraved on the sides. The gentle glow of the Akari lamp symbolizes the pursuit of world peace.
