Taigendo was founded by the first Kosai Yamane in 1912 in Miyajimaguchi – across the water from Itsukushima Shrine. Since then, Taigendo has been designated as the “Official Kiln of Itsukushima Shrine” and a “Traditional Craft of Hiroshima Prefecture” as well as building a customer base that stretches across Japan and abroad. Like with our Japanese maple leaf design, where we use real Japanese maple leaves to create our “Momiji Crest” design (the Japanese maple being the official tree of Hiroshima), all of our products tell a story about this region.

We are located a few minutes on foot from Miyajimaguchi Station. In a workshop with the original wood-fired kiln and brick chimney still standing, the third generation Kosai Yamane along with a handful of craftsmen continue to keep our traditions alive.
